This is your capstone. Everything from Lessons 1–6 comes together in one satisfying project: a tired dresser becomes a showpiece. Here's the weekend plan.
Saturday morning: prep (1 hour)
- 1Remove all drawers and hardware.
- 2Wipe every surface with degreaser; dry fully.
- 3Tape off anything you're keeping unpainted (like a wood top).
Saturday afternoon: first coat
Paint a thin, even first coat on the frame and drawer fronts, without adding water. Brush the details, roll the flats. Let it look patchy — you'll fix that next. Leave it to dry.
Sunday morning: second coat & effects
Apply your second, slightly thicker coat for full color. If you want character, add gentle distressing to the edges or a two-tone accent on the drawers once dry.
Sunday afternoon: reassemble & style
Reattach hardware (or upgrade to new knobs for an instant lift), slide the drawers back in, and style your finished piece. That's a whole new dresser in a weekend.
You just learned a skill you'll use for life. The next piece is even easier.
You did it 🎉
That's the course. You now know how to choose, prep, paint, finish, seal and complete a real furniture makeover. Share your project, and keep going — every room in your home is a potential canvas.
